The World Cinema Series continues at The Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls! Join me Thursday April 30th for a FREE screening of to honor the 75th anniversary of Vittorio De Sica's fantasy comedy masterpiece, "Miracle In Milan"!<\/p>\n\n

This film mas made in between his masterful, "The Bicycle Thieves" (1948) and "Umberto D" and in true neo-realist fashion, De Sica used a mix of professional and non-professional actors. He also shot the film around a wasteland near Milan's railway station and the Milan Cathedral serves as the location of the finale! So, we do get a pretty cool look & tour of Milan after WWII! <\/p>\n\n

De Sica apparently made & wrote this film to show how the "the common man" can exist and he was quoted as saying: "It is true that my people have already attained happiness after their own fashion; precisely because they are destitute, these people still feel – as the majority of ordinary men perhaps no longer do – the living warmth of a ray of winter sunshine, the simple poetry of the wind. They greet water with the same pure joy as Saint Francis did."<\/p>\n\n

After he broke our hearts with "Shoeshine", "Bicycle Thieves", etc. It was incredible on how he made us laugh. Even though we did not live in post-WWII Italy, you can and most likely fall in love with it's charm, just like I did. <\/p>\n\n

A baker's dozen of red mailboxes have all of a sudden shown up around New York City. And the reason why sounds like something out of a romantic comedy. But if you're like me, someone with feels and nowhere to put them, this experiment might be totally up your alley.<\/p>\n\n

The timing of the appearance of these 13 mysterious mailboxes is tied into Valentine's Day and I love the sentiment behind them. <\/p>\n\n

It's the brainchild of POPUPFLORIST as part of an annual celebration of the season of love. They're inviting hopeless romantics who still revere old-fashioned tradition to write an anonymous love letter and drop it in one of their red mailboxes. The letters are to be included in an exhibition called The Love Letters of New York City Gallery opening February 7th at 21 Howard Street in Lower Manhattan.<\/p>\n\n

The mailboxes are being spotted outside cafés, bookstores, restaurants, and salons across Manhattan and Brooklyn, according to mustdonyc\/Instagram<\/a>, and you have until January 25th to deliver your anonymous love letter. You can write it to a current sweetheart, an unrequited crush, your pet, or even TO New York City itself. It's up to you.<\/p>\n\n
