When I first saw the preview for the new supernatural horror film, "Obsession", I really wasn't sure what to think. It had that interesting premise revolving around the hypothetical "one wish" scenario.
The film was amazingly written, directed and edited by new filmmaker, Curry Barker. Apparently before his horror films, he was involved with sketch comedy duo called, "That's A Bad Idea" on YouTube. He also made short horror films as well on that particular channel. When this film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival (In their Midnight Madness section) last year, there was a lot of excitement! A bidding war ensued in which Focus Features won the distribution rights!
The plot is simple: A shy and not confident young music store employee has a crush on one of his co-workers and is afraid to tell her how he feels. Desperate to win her over, he buys a "One-Wish Willow" and from there the film takes off and it doesn't stop. At a 109 minute running time, it does feel a tad too long but overall, its a worthwhile watch for horror movie fans!
