I (like many) are still trying to process the death & tragedy surrounding acclaimed actor & filmmaker, Rob Reiner and his wife. I'm not going to focus on that, rather his incredible cinematic legacy! He's never been my favorite, but his films have been a part of my life since I was a kid. He lost me several years ago with his political stuff, but I never hold that against anyone! Everyone is sharing their favorite Rob Reiner films and to pay tribute, I'll participate as well.
"The Princess Bride" (1987) This was my introduction to Rob Reiner cinema. I didn't realize the name until years later. It was never a favorite but I do remember watching it several times as a kid and enjoying it and still get a kick out of re-visiting from time to time with my wife.
"A Few Good Men" (1992) This was the second Rob Reiner film that I watched and another stellar film. Not a favorite but it's still a decent enough film and of course Reiner got the best out of Tom Cruise & Jack Nicholson!
"This Is Spinal Tap" (1984) This was Rob Reiner's directorial debut and it's a hoot! Perhaps the greatest "Mockumentary" of all time. Even though it isn't in my collection, I still quote the "volume goes to 11" scene quite frequently!
"When Harry Met Sally..." (1989) This romantic comedy "chick flick" is superb! This was a personal film of sorts as Reiner was going through a divorce with Penny Marshall back when the film was in the planning stages. It's widely considered one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time!
"Stand By Me" (1986) This was a decent enough adaptation of Stephen King's "The Body". Even though it's not a favorite of mine, it still is decent enough to re-watch and many have claimed that this is one of the greatest films of the 1980's!
"The Wolf Of Wall Street" (2013) Reiner shines as a supporting actor in Martin Scorsese's sizzling and often darkly comedic, "The Wolf Of Wall Street"! Reiner receives many of the laughs as Jordan Belfort's high-strung father.
