The World Cinema Series continues at The Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls! This time we're revisiting a masterpiece comedy from France!
Thursday June 19th at 7pm, I'll be hosting a FREE screening of one of the most influential films of all time! Jacques Tati's "Playtime" from 1967. When I first saw this film & Tati's films in general, I loved watching his subtle humor. The bigger the screen, the more the gags and humor (and those amazing sets) can be seen! Tati reprises his Monsieur Hulot character from previous films and it satirizes modern architecture and technology and how how humans interact because of it! This makes the film timeless and always relevant as we continue to struggle with these today!
Another film that was a disaster at the box office (Tati had a few) that age like fine wine and "Playtime" in particular has been named his "magnum opus"! Yes Tati was inspired by the likes of Chaplin & Keaton, but when watching Tati's Hurlot, you can easily see where the inspiration of Mr. Bean came from!
