The World Cinema Series continues at the Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls on Thursday May 29th at 7pm with a FREE screening of Ingmar Bergman's "Smiles of a Summer Night"!
Before I saw "Smiles Of A Summer Night", I thought Bergman only created depressing films. Granted, there was some humor in "The Seventh Seal", but with a heavy subject matter of death, it was never classified as a comedy. Most people think dark & depressing when Ingmar Bergman is mentioned.
I was pleasantly surprised several years ago when I saw "Smiles Of A Summer Night" for the first time at home when I bought the "Ingmar Berman's Cinema" box set through the Criterion Collection. This is my wife's personal favorite Bergman film (along with "The Seventh Seal")! We found ourselves laughing throughout the 109 minute running time! Highly influential film & plot has been adapted many times over the years, but none can compare with Bergman's masterful script & direction! If you think Bergman is all doom & gloom, then this film will turn that opinion around!
