I saw The Weeknd's (Abel Tesfaye) psychological thriller, "Hurry Up Tomorrow" when it was in the Aviation Mall movie theater for two weeks.
I thought it fit our wheelhouse for our podcast, so I turned into a date opportunity with my wife and it was OK. My wife, being the artist she is, enjoyed this more than I did. I suppose if we were true fans of "The Weeknd", we would've enjoyed this more, but I'm not sure. This works as a companion to his 6th album of the same name which was released earlier in the year and his upcoming concert tour apparently.
The visuals, sound and pretty much everything technically with film is outstanding! That is mainly due to the director, Trey Edward Shults. He's a rising filmmaker and flirted with critical awards back in 2019 to the much praised "Waves". To me, this seemed more like an extended video. A lot decent homages to David Lynch & Martin Scorsese cinema only not anywhere near as compelling!
If you want to check this out at home, it'll be available this weekend on digital streaming via premium video on demand.
