When I was researching the latest supernatural horror film, "Until Dawn" for our podcast, I had no idea it was based on a video game! In case you don't remember either, it was a survival horror game developed for the PS4. The game had a decent enough following (enough for a film adaptation apparently).
I saw the film inside the theater at the Aviation Mall and it was an OK first time watch. I saw a great deal of homages to every sub genre in horror. Slasher, supernatural, found footage, psychological, even a little body horror. It was a pleasant surprise to see Peter Stormare (of Fargo fame) reprising his role in the game. The director & writers were apparently big fans of the game, but I wouldn't have a clue as I've never played the game. From a cinema aspect it was a run-of-the-mill horror film. It wasn't bad, it's just a forgettable film that does it's job in the entertainment department, but is nothing spectacular.
