Fans tuning in for The Bachelorette this Sunday won't be watching. According to TODAY, ABC's parent company Disney announced today — just three days before the March 22 premiere — that Season 22 will not move forward.
The decision came hours after TMZ resurfaced a 2023 video involving lead Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex, Dakota Mortensen. Per NBC News, the Draper City Police Department has confirmed the two are part of an ongoing domestic assault investigation, with allegations made in both directions.
Per TV Insider, the leaked video shows Paul throwing chairs at Mortensen while her daughter was present — an incident that previously led to her arrest on misdemeanor charges of assault, criminal mischief, and domestic violence in the presence of a minor.
Disney said in a statement: "In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of 'The Bachelorette' at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family."
According to NBC News, Mortensen's representative stated that his top priority is protecting the couple's 2-year-old son. Paul told NBC News, "I will have my truth."
Per Variety, the cancellation is also a significant financial blow — ABC could be out tens of millions of dollars in license fees, marketing costs, and lost revenue — but the network made clear that the well-being of those involved comes first.
The future of the franchise remains uncertain, with no Bachelor Nation programming confirmed for the remainder of 2026, according to Swooon.
