Chappell Roan Apologizes After Incident That Left 11-Year-Old Fan in Tears

Chappell Roan is speaking out after a viral incident involving a young fan that quickly sparked backlash online.

According to reports from outlets including People and The Guardian, the situation unfolded at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil, ahead of Roan’s Lollapalooza performance. Brazilian soccer star Jorginho claimed his 11-year-old stepdaughter — who is also the daughter of actor Jude Law — became upset after an encounter with a security guard connected to the singer.

Per Jorginho’s account, the child simply recognized Roan during breakfast, smiled, and walked away without approaching her. He alleges a security guard then confronted the girl and her mother aggressively, accusing the child of harassment and leaving her in tears.

The story spread quickly on social media, with criticism aimed at Roan and questions about how young fans are treated in these situations.

Roan responded shortly after in a video posted to Instagram, saying she had no direct involvement in the incident. She explained that the security guard in question was not part of her personal team and that she was unaware of any interaction at the time.

Still, she acknowledged what happened and issued an apology.

Roan said she was “sad” to hear the family had an uncomfortable experience and expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing that she does not have any issue with fans or children. According to Cosmopolitan, she also pushed back on assumptions that she was dismissive of fans, reiterating that she values their support.

The moment has sparked a broader conversation about celebrity boundaries versus fan expectations — something Roan has spoken about before, especially as her popularity has grown.

As reported by The Guardian, the situation has already had ripple effects, including criticism from public officials in Brazil and increased scrutiny around how artists manage security and public interactions.

For now, Roan’s response makes one thing clear: while she denies direct involvement, she recognizes the impact — and is trying to address it.
