Mariah Carey is set to perform at the opening ceremony of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, representing the emotional atmosphere leading up to the Games.
The local organizing committee praised Carey's selection, stating, "Music is a universal language that attracts different stories and sensibilities and intertwines with the opening ceremony’s theme of harmony."
The Winter Olympics will take place across northern Italy, with smaller opening ceremonies planned in three mountain clusters simultaneously.
Renowned ballet star Roberto Bolle will lead the closing ceremony at Verona's ancient Roman Arena on February 22.
