Uber Rolls Out Women-Only Ride Option Nationwide

Uber has launched a new feature that allows women riders and drivers in the U.S. to be matched with other women for trips, expanding a pilot program aimed at improving safety. Despite facing a class action lawsuit in California, Uber's new feature allows women to request a female driver through the app. The feature also allows passengers to opt for another ride if the wait for a woman driver is too long and reserve a trip with a woman driver in advance. Uber's women drivers can set preferences to request trips with female riders, and the company says about one-fifth of its U.S. drivers are women. The feature has been rolled out nationwide, and Uber and Lyft have faced thousands of reports of sexual assaults over the years.
