My wife & I saw award winning Alejandro González Iñárritu & Tom Cruise's latest film, "Digger" on IMAX a couple of weeks ago and we still can't stop thinking about it!
The movie has become known now for being a monumental flop! With everything factored in, the cost of "Digger" totaled approx. $250 million!!! After two weeks in theatres, the film has only grossed a little over $14 million! Yikes!
The thing is, "Digger" is actually the best film I've seen so far this year! What went wrong? One could say that too much money was spent, perhaps a confusing marketing campaign, and maybe an unappealing premise for the audience. Part of me wonders if the corporate elites wanted this film to fail but, It's difficult to say, but I will say this film is not for everyone!
If you love scathing satire, I really hope you give this film a chance! The trailer really doesn't give you any idea what the film is about. It's only a smidge of the plot! There is a literal plot twist occurs at the 30 minute mark and then the film becomes something else that you will not be able to predict! This has to be seen on the biggest screen possible as well. The sets, cinematography and the sound design work best on the biggest and best sounding theatres! Yes, Tom Cruise delivers one of his greatest performances, but the entire cast is top notch!
I think this film has potential to be a cult classic! Time will tell of course but in the meantime, SEE THIS FILM IN A THEATRE NEAR YOU! This film will most likely be gone this weekend or next!
