When I first saw the trailer for yet another "Resident Evil" flick, I was not interested! When I found out that rising filmmaker, Zach Cregger produced, directed and co-wrote the film, I was somewhat intrigued. This is the guy who crafted the very interesting horror films" 'Barbarians" & last year's award winning sensation, "Weapons". 

The interesting thing about this film is the film was not only influenced by the game franchises survival mode, first person POV, but also classics like John Carpenter's "The Thing", "Evil Dead II", and other 80's horror films, but I totally had "Apocalypse Now" vibes when watching this. Granted, nowhere near as effective and even though it's not a war film, it parallels Coppola's 1979 masterpiece in the psychological descent into madness for sure. I don't want to spoil it for you!

It certainly is interesting! I have never played a "Resident Evil" video game so I can't say how true the new film is to the game or not, but I will say that I enjoyed the film a lot more than the Alice driven films of the past (Milla Jovovich was awesome though)! Zach is a huge fan of the game and the passion for the material definitely shines through! I can't say that I want to watch this film again as the way the protagonist was written bothered me, but overall a surprisingly crafted survival horror film!
