Movie Review- "28 Years Later"

I was more curious than excited when I saw previews for "28 Years Later". I really liked "28 Days Later" & "28 Months Later" and I saw that original collaborators, Danny Boyle & Alex Garland were returning to direct and write. I was also thinking this would make for a good podcast discussion as well.

The film had it's moments for sure, but there's a lot of problems with the execution. There's a seemingly important character that disappears after the first scene and there's no clues on what happens to them. I understand they're trying to create a trilogy here, but you'd think the filmmaker & writer may want to drop some clues? There's a lot of build-up with certain scenes, but alas it seems that they're going for the Marvel strategy: Build  up the next film, carefully map out and introduce characters while trying to plant seeds for future films or series. Alas, I'm not a fan of that kind of storytelling as it typically leads to an anti-climatic conclusion. Every film in a franchise needs to have a satisfying conclusion, but I did not find it here unfortunately. I'm hoping this doesn't turn this series into a situation like Marvel: Creating content rather than cinema.

It appears I'm in the minority as the film has started making a profit and the next film will seemingly be titled: "28 Years Later: The Bone Yard". I didn't hate the film and I'm curious enough to watch the sequel. I just hope they don't make the film for the sake of teeing up a sequel.
