Movie Review-Eddington

I've been a fan of filmmaker, Ari Aster's work since I saw "Midsommar" 6 years ago. Even though we've seen countless folk horror films, with Ari Aster at the helm the genre felt new & fresh!

I was excited about seeing his 4th film, "Eddington" with Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal & Emma Stone. Described as a neo-western dark comedy, I was intrigued by the preview, description, etc. The film more or less is about all of the political & social turmoil that occurs when the Eddington town sheriff (Phoenix) decides to run for mayor against the incumbent mayor (Pascal) in the upcoming election. I don't want to reveal too much more about the plot, but it does take place in the year, 2020 during the pandemic. You see the chaos and confusion amongst various characters within the town. What I love is Ari Aster does not take a side. He simply presents the characters with all of their likeability and faults without too much judgment. The reviews of this film are divisive quite like the social climate the film represents. "Eddington" will not do that well at the box office, but this is one film that has potential to be a cult classic. Time will tell! We'll have to check back in 30-40 years!

My own personal opinion, is that this is the film of the year (so far) and it has not left my head (and it most likely never will). See this film in the theaters before its gone!
