Movie Review-I Know What You Did Last Summer

I saw the original 1997 "I Know What You Did Last Summer" to prepare myself for this film and also some podcast episodes. I thought the original was OK and since the film was a HUGE hit, it wasn't a surprise a sequel followed a year later (which I liked even less). This franchise then had a direct-to-video sequel (without any original cast) in 2006, a TV series and now a theatrical, legacy sequel in 2025 which shares the same name as the first film!

As I usually do, I head into the Aviation Mall theatre with no expectations. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Brandy Norwood all reprise their respective roles (some in dream sequences). It started off OK, and started kind of like the original and as the minutes ticked by, the film became more preposterous. There are a couple of twists (as you'd expect) that just seems like the filmmakers were just scraping and reaching for ideas. With a running time of a few minutes shy of two hours, it goes on WAY too long! There are also some plot elements that are thrown in that are not explored or make no sense.

If you're a fan of the franchise, you may be less judgmental, but if you are a casual fan or thought it was OK, then proceed with caution!
