Actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles in “Heroes” and “Nashville,” has died at the age of 36.
Panettiere’s representative confirmed her death Sunday, describing the actress as an “incredible light” who brought love and joy to those who knew her and the millions who watched her onscreen. A cause of death has not been announced.
Panettiere began working in entertainment as a child, appearing in commercials before landing roles on the soap operas “One Life to Live” and “Guiding Light.” She went on to appear in films including “Remember the Titans,” “Racing Stripes,” “Ice Princess” and “Bring It On: All or Nothing.”
Her breakout role came in 2006 when she began playing cheerleader Claire Bennet on NBC’s “Heroes.” The character’s ability to rapidly heal from injuries became one of the defining elements of the hit series, which ran for four seasons.
Panettiere later starred opposite Connie Britton in the musical drama “Nashville,” playing country singer Juliette Barnes from 2012 until the series ended in 2018. The role earned Panettiere two Golden Globe nominations.
She was also well known to horror fans as Kirby Reed in the “Scream” franchise. Panettiere first played the character in 2011’s “Scream 4” and returned to the role more than a decade later in “Scream VI.”
Away from the screen, Panettiere had spoken publicly about some of the struggles she faced throughout her life and career, including growing up in the entertainment industry, postpartum depression and addiction. Earlier this year, she released her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.”
Panettiere was also the older sister of actor Jansen Panettiere, who died unexpectedly in 2023 at the age of 28. She later spoke openly about the profound grief she experienced following his death.
Panettiere is survived by her daughter, Kaya.
Additional details surrounding her death have not yet been released.
